The Top 3 Reasons For Cracks In Textured Art

The last thing you want when you put time and effort into an art piece is for it to crack while it's drying.

BUT IT'S OK...because you can avoid it!

Here's the top 3 reasons for cracks in textured art.

1. Your paste is spread too thick!

If you're using a budget style paste, such as joint compound
or filler/wall putty, they aren't designed to be applied more
than a few millimetres thick. Applying your paste too thick
will be one of the biggest reasons that you're getting cracks!

2. Do you have the heating and cooling on in your house?
Having the heating or cooling on in your house might cause
your artwork to dry too quickly, especially the outer layer!
This can create cracks. If possible, do not dry your art in a
room with heating or cooling on.

3. It could be your climate!
Is it hot and dry where you live? This can cause the outside
layer to harden and dry out before the inside. This might
cause cracking, especially in thick layers that need a long time
to dry. Also, avoid drying your artwork in the sun or near an
open window.
